The UW Evans School's Nancy Bell Evans Center on Nonprofits & Philanthropy, Philanthropy Northwest and Social Venture Partners invite you to their first talk of the 2009-2010 academic year: "Reflections on Philanthropy from Today’s Leaders" featuring David B. Smith speaking on: “Sustaining Impact: Measuring our Civic Return on Investment.” The following questions will be discussed: What is Civic Health? How do you measure it? How does the economy affect it? What is a funder’s role? How can funders help build vital communities? The discussion will be followed by Q & A. The event is sponsored by the Henry M. Jackson Foundation.

David B. Smith is the executive director of the National Conference on Citizenship (NCoC). Founded in 1946, the NCoC defines modern citizenship through tracking, measuring and promoting civic engagement in partnership with leading organizations on a bipartisan, collaborative basis. Prior to joining NCoC, David founded and served as the executive director of Mobilize.org, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating, empowering, and energizing the Millennial Generation to increase civic engagement and political participation. He has been featured in books including the Millennial Manifesto and Generation We, and has published essays in Rebooting America and Dream of a Nation.
